So, how to sort in google sheets? there were two ways to use this option. One is directly by just using the data tab and another way by declaring the functions. However, to apply the sort option quickly within your sheets just open google sheets and go to the Data tab and click on the sort range option and select the sorting format, and click on the sort option. What is Sorting?
Generally sorting is a kind of method or process in which data are sorted in any particular manner. You can use the sort features to sort any kind of data, such as to sort numbers, to sort dates, to sort names, and other things as well.
However, within google sheets, you can access the sorting option very easily. To access that feature just clicks on the data tab and sort range option. Amongst all the spreadsheet packages google sheets provide a much better sorting option and being open-source web-based software, it is very much useful for the users.
How to Sort in Google Sheets by Using Data Tab?
Here I provide a step-by-step guide on how to apply the sorting option in google sheets without using any functions-
In the first step just open your google spreadsheets documents and here create any kind of data table in which you will apply the sorting options.
Here I provide an example of how I create a simple data table, just create a simple data table like this-
After creating this kind of simple data table just selects the full data because without selecting it you will be unable to apply the sorting option.
In the next step just click on the data tab and after clicking there numerous options will appears in front of you and from here you have to choose the sort range option.
After clicking on the sort range option various other options will appear, and from here you just have to select the sort option to apply to sort within your documents.
In this manner, you can easily apply the sorting options within your google sheets documents.
However, here you will also get the other features like-
Data has Header Row:
If your data table is included with the header options then you can select this option, and after selecting this option google sheets will understand the fact that your data table is included with a header row and it will separate your main data table with a header row.
This option is used to declare the facts in which columns you want to apply the sorting option. In my data table I just only have three columns and here I can specify in which column I want to apply the sorting options.
Just, remember one thing if your data table has more than three columns then it will definitely display more columns.
A – Z:
This option is mainly used to describe in which format you want to apply the sorting options within your documents. And if you select this option the data will be sorted in the format of A- Z or ascending to descending.
Z – A:
This option is almost similar to the previous option and from here you can declare the data from descending to ascending order.
Add another Sort Column:
From this section, you can apply another sort column within your documents, and with the help of that column, you can perform the sorting within two columns simultaneously.
Sort and Cancel:
These are the two basic buttons provided at the bottom of your documents and here by clicking on the sort options you can sort any kind of data table in any format.
And besides that, the cancel button is given, and by clicking on the cancel button you can cancel any kinds of thing that you just have selected.
In this manner, by using these features you can easily apply the sorting options within your google sheets documents.
How to Sort in Google Sheets by Number?
To apply any kind of number sorting within your documents you have to follow the same step that I have mentioned in the upper section.
But till here I have explained the steps-
In the first step open your google sheets documents and after that create a data table in which you want to apply sorting options. Make sure one thing that your data table must have included with the numbers.
Here, you will notice the income section and there I will apply my number sorting option, just wait and watch.
Now in the next step just selects the full data table and click on the data tab and click on the sort range option.
As, you have already noticed that my data table has three columns and within the third column or in the income column I will apply the sorting, and to perform that task I have to choose the number column from sort by options.
And after that simply click on the Z- A to option and sort option to get the results.
And here is the output-
Here the results come from ascending to descending order, such as BidYut’s income is most and therefore he is at the top of the list, and Rakesh’s income is lower they everyone’s, therefore, he is at the bottom of the list.
How to Sort in Google Sheets by Dates?
Google Sheets also allows us to sort the data in the data table in the format of dates and to do that you just have to follow some steps, such as-
Open the google sheets within your device and creates a data table and make sure that the data table must include some dates.
After creating the data table next selects the data table and go to the data tab options within google sheets, and after that select the sort range options.
After clicking on the sort range options next selects the data has header row option if your table has the header after that choose the format in which you want to apply the sorting and then click on the sort option, you will be noticed that the data were formatted according to your instructions.
How to Sort in Google Sheets by Name?
Yes, you can definitely sort any kind of name within google sheets, and to do that you have to follow the same process, till I have explained here the steps-
In the first step open google sheets and create a database that consists of some names.
After that go to the data tab option and choose the date range options from here.
Now selects the data has header row option and after that select the sort by option and selects the format in which you want to sort your google sheets(A-Z or Z-A) and click on the sort option.
