After the announcement of Windows 11, people are asking whether it is possible to run Windows 11 on the 7th gen processor or not?
If you are seeking the same query, you are in the right place & I have done some excellent research about Windows 11 & its compatibility with 7th gen processors.
So, Does 7th gen support Windows 11?
Yes! the 7th gen intel core processors support the latest Windows 11 operating system, but these CPU based PCs cant be upgraded directly from Windows 10 to Windows 11; instead of that, you need to download the ISO file from Microsoft’s official websites & then you can install Windows 11 on your system.
For, now only 3 Intel 7th generation core CPUs can support the Windows 11 operating systems & the processors mentioned below-
- Intel Core i7-7820HQ
- Intel Core i7-7820X
- Intel Core i7-7800X
Although according to Microsoft’s official statement, lower than 8th generation processors are not compatible with Windows 11.

But these three mentioned Intel Core 7th generation processors bypass the system requirements of Windows 11 & therefore, you can easily install Windows 11 on these processors.
Besides these 3 7th generation processors, several other 7th gen intel processors are there, which fails on the PC health pack of Windows 11 & in the below section, it has been discussed why Windows 11 is not compatible with some 7th generation processors.
Why Windows 11 does not Support 7th Gen?
There were several 7th generation processors which are not compatible with Windows 11 simply because these processors do not fill the 2 major system requirements of Windows 11 & those are explained below-
TPM 2.0
The term TPM stands for Trusted Platform Module, and it is a kind of cryptographic chip. Microsoft wants to make this Windows 11 more secure than its previous operating system.
To enhance the security within Windows 11 operating system, Microsoft introduces the TPM 2. chip concept within Windows 11.
In simple terms, it is a security alarm for your computer to prevent hackers or malware from accessing data.
Microsoft mentioned that if your device does not have the TPM 2.0 chip, you cannot install Windows 11.
Most of the modern processors or motherboards come with the TPM 2.0 chip, but many 7th generation processors are old & these do not come with the TPM chip, and these processors are not compatible with windows 11.
Secure Boot
Secure Boot is another major security feature introduced in Windows 11. This security feature is designed to prevent malicious software from loading when your PC starts up.
Microsoft mentioned that to run Windows 11, your device needs secure boot capability.
Most modern PCs are capable of doing secure Boot. Still, most of the 7th generation processor-based PCs are not secure Boot capable & therefore, these PCs are not compatible with Windows 11.
So, Windows 11 does not support many 7th generation processors for the reasons mentioned above.

No! the Intel i3 7th generation processors do not support the latest Windows 11 operating system because these CPUs & PCs do not complete all the system requirements of Windows 11 (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot).
However, Microsoft also mentioned a list of Intel CPUs compatible with Windows 11 & there, all 8th gen or higher i3 CPUs had been mentioned.

Does i5 7th gen support Windows 11?
No! the Intel core i5 7th generation processors are not compatible with the latest Windows 11 operating system because these CPUs based PCs do not complete the requirements of Windows 11 like (Secure Boot, TPM 2.0) chip.
Does i7 7th gen support Windows 11?
Yes! the Intel core i7 7th generation intel processors are compatible with the latest Windows 11 operating system.
However, Microsoft released a list of processors which are compatible with windows 11 & on that list 3 main 7th gen i7 processors are mentioned-
- Intel Core i7-7820HQ
- Intel Core i7-7820X
- Intel Core i7-7800X
Can AMD A9 7th gen run Windows 11?
No! the AMD A9 7th generation is not compatible with the Windows 11 operating system, although it completes all the system requirements for Windows 11.
The AMD A9-9420 and A9-9425 complete all the system requirements for Windows 11, including (UEFI & Secure Boot), till these APUs are not compatible with Windows 11.
Does AMD E2 7th gen support Windows 11?
No! the AMD E2 7th generation processor is not compatible with the Windows 11 operating system because it does not match all the system requirements for Windows 11.
However, the allthing.how website writes an article about which processors are not compatible with Windows 11, on that article, the AMD E2 7th gen processor is listed.
Can Intel Core m3 7th gen run Windows 11?
No! the Intel Core M3 7th gen cannot run the latest Windows 11 operating system because this processor is not listed on the compatible Windows 11 operating system.
