However, if your PC is 2 to 3 years old and you notice that your CPU or GPU is constantly heating, this can be due to aging and bad thermal paste.

Moreover, if you face sudden FPS drops during gaming, this can be due to old thermal paste.

So, suppose you are facing these issues continuously. In that case, it indicates thermal paste would be so bad of quality that it hinders the flow of heat or is so old that it hinders it; then You would have to replace it with a new one to prevent thermal throttling, causing lowered performance.

Yes! in most cases, after applying the new thermal paste, you will notice a significant improvement in the framerates because the new thermal paste protects your CPU or GPU from overheating. 

Overheating is closely related to framerates, and if your device is heating too much, you will get a lower FPS.

However, in rare cases, after applying the new layer of thermal paste, you will notice a slight decrease in the FPS and some game stuttering, but this problem will remain for very little time for you.

Should You replace Thermal Paste for better FPS?

If your CPU or GPU is several years old and your framerate gets progressively worse the longer you play games, you should replace the thermal paste. 

On average, your CPU’s thermal paste lasts for 2 to 3 years, and it’s a good habit to replace the CPU’s thermal compound over time. It also protects your CPU from overheating.

But, when it comes to GPU, then you should only change the thermal paste on a GPU if it’s hitting temperatures of higher than 90c and your warranty has expired.
